George H. W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, regularly expressed his dislike of broccoli, memorably declaring: "I'm not a fan of broccoli. When I was a young child, I haven't liked it. My mum also forced me to eat it. I am currently the president of the USA. I also won't be eating any more broccoli!" Bush's opinions on broccoli were regarded as being out of touch with Americans because the vegetable was becoming increasingly well-known and was dubbed the "vegetable of the 1980s."
