1. Divide the compound figure into parts whose areas can be calculated. These parts must be simple shapes such are rectangles, triangle, circles, etc. for which there is a formula, and the dimensions (length, width, height, radius, etc.) must be shown or can be calculated.

2. Calculate the area of each part.

3. Add all areas together.
