The story of Cinderella was violent and gruesome. The sisters mutilate their feet to fit into the glass slipper, and then in the end they are both blinded by the very birds that had been helping Cinderella throughout the story (karma is a b*tch).

Similarly, these versions of Little Red Riding Hood also include violence and gore (the ogre and the bzou stories especially!). Why do you believe these stories for children included such violence and gore? What was the point? Explain.

Answer

It is believed that these stories were meant to teach children lessons about morality and justice, as well as to warn them of the dangers of the world. The violence and gore were used to emphasize the consequences of bad behavior and to show that good will ultimately prevail.
