Answer:

Myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, is caused by a sudden blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle. This blockage is usually caused by the buildup of cholesterol and other substances, known as plaque, inside the walls of the coronary arteries, which are responsible for supplying the heart muscle with oxygen and nutrients. When the plaque ruptures or breaks open, a blood clot can form and completely block the artery, causing a heart attack. Other risk factors that can contribute to the development of myocardial infarction include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle.
