Jason bought a rug and it covers 2/3 of the floors length and 3/4 of the floors width. How much of the floor is covered by the rug?

Let

L = length of the floor
W = width of floor

Area = LW

Length of rug = 2/3 floor length = (2/3) L = 2L/3

Width of rug = 3/4 of floor width = (3/4) W = 3W/4

Area of rug = 2L/3 x 3W/4 = 2/3 x 3/4 x LW = 1/2 x LW = LW/2

So the rug covers half the floor area
