Read the excerpt from the text On the Oregon Trail Chapter Three, "River Crossing." Look at the words in bold.

The group decided to stop to take in the view of Shoshone Falls. Otis and Will stood on a patch of rocks overlooking the roaring falls, letting the refreshing mist hit them
square in their faces. Otis enjoyed watching the water vapor dance across the sky and fall into clouds of mist. Others started emerging from their wagons, stretching
their legs, and collecting clothing to wash in the nearby river. Otis and Will took off their shoes and walked into the shallows. Water frolicked down the stream, and
the cool water felt rejuvenating on their sore feet. When they went to collect their shoes, there was only an empty space where the shoes once were.
"Hmm. This is where we left our shoes, isn't it, Way" asked Otis. The boys ran back to the group to find the other group members surrounding a man with an open
gunnysack full of possessions at his feet. Otis could see one of his athletic shoes inside of the bag.
"A dirty, rotten bandit!" said Will. Osis had never seen a bandit before but had expected one to look a lot scarler than the man standing before them. He could hear
the man stammering "1 am s-s-sorry, but I have nothing to my name. No 1-4-family, no friends. Nothing!" Otis felt sorry for the man. He had felt scared and alone when
he first traveled back in time.
"Give me a chance to come with you all. I can help you. I know these roads like the back of my hand, and you're going to need to cross that river there."
The captain was skeptical. He didn't trust this man and got the impression that he was sly as a fox. Otis reminded the captain that if he hadn't trusted or given
Lone Horn a chance, he might not have ever made it back to the group. Finally, the Captain agreed, and they packed up their wagons, this time with an additional
group member. The river had begun to flow wildly. The water crashed into the rocks like a lion trying to escape its cage.
How do the other characters perceive the bandit in this part of the text?
O That he could not be trusted
O That he enjoyed the river
O That he liked helping others
O That he was friendly and kind
