x = 4 , y = 0

Explanation:

y = - 2x + 8 → (1)

y = x - 4 → (2)

since both equations express y in terms of x , equate the right sides

x - 4 = - 2x + 8 ( add 2x to both sides )

3x - 4 = 8 ( add 4 to both sides )

3x = 12 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 4

substitute x = 4 into either of the 2 equations and evaluate for y

substituting into (2)

y = 4 - 4 = 0
