The effect of the volcanoes on Manua Loa was devastating. The hazards from the Mauna Loa eruption include lava flows, earthquakes, fractures and subsidence, volcanic gas emissions, hazardous volcanic smog called vog, and explosive eruptive activity. This event caused people to die from trying to enter into the closed area to seek shelter.
