John is 2 years older than Ryan who is twice as old as jimmy. If the sum of the present ages of John, Ryan and Jimmy be 52, then how old is Ryan?

Answer:

20

Explanation:

let the present age of jimmy = X

let the present age of Ryan =2X(twice the age of Jimmy)

let the present age of John= 2X + 2( two years older than Ryan)

Now,

X + 2X + 2X + 2 = 52( sum of their present age)

or, 5X = 52 - 2

or, 5X = 50

or, X = 50/5

or, X = 10

Again,

present age of Ryan = 2X

= 2 × 10

= 20
