Unpopular opinion, but the treaty of Versailles was really just using Germany as a massive scapegoat. Anyways here's my answer!
The Treaty of Versailles did not grant independence to the Austrian Empire. In fact, the treaty dissolved the Austro-Hungarian Empire and created several new nations in its place, including Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia. These new nations were intended to promote stability and self-determination in Europe, as well as to weaken Germany by reducing its power and influence in the region. However, the effectiveness of the treaty in achieving these goals has been debated by historians.
