A rectangular garden has a walkway around it. The area of the garden is 2(5.5x +3.5). The combined area of the garden and

the walkway is 3.5(8x + 5). Find the area of the walkway around the garden as the sum of two terms.

The area of the garden is 2(5.5x + 3.5) = 11x + 7.

The combined area of the garden and the walkway is 3.5(8x + 5) = 28x + 17.5.

The area of the walkway is the difference between the combined area and the area of the garden:

Area of walkway = combined area - area of garden
= (28x + 17.5) - (11x + 7)
= 17x + 10.5

So the area of the walkway around the garden is 17x + 10.5, which can be expressed as the sum of two terms as:

17x + 10.5 = 2x + 15 + 15x - 4.5

Therefore, the area of the walkway can be expressed as the sum of 2 terms: 2x + 15 and 15x - 4.5.
