The FAA now figures the average checked bag to weigh 24 pounds. This is up from a previous figure of 10 pounds.

Find the amount of increase and the percent of increase, to the nearest whole percent.

The amount increase is 14 pounds. Because if the previous is 10 pounds and the current is 24 pounds, all you have to do is subtract 10 from 24, which is 14.

The percent of increase is 140%. To find the percent of change, use this formula:

(new-old/2)(100)

So put in the numbers:

(24-10/10)(100)

(14/10)(100)

(1.4)(100)

140

Hope this helped!
