Answer:

12.5%

What is a percentage?

A percentage is a ratio, or a number expressed in the form of a fraction of 100. Percentages are often used to express a part of a total.

To find out what percentage of the fish are Clownfish, we can first convert this problem into a fraction:

  • (3)/(24)

Now that we have this, we can multiply both the numerator and the denominator by 10.

  • 3 × 10= 30
  • 24 × 10 = 240

The fraction now looks like this:

  • (30)/(240)

Dividing the numerator and denominator by 2.4:

  • 30 ÷ 2.4 = 12.5
  • 240 ÷ 2.4 = 100

Why do we divide by 2.4?

We divided by 2.4 because to get a denominator of 100 we need to divide 240 by 2.4.

The fraction now looks like this:

  • (12.5)/(100)

If a percentage is a fraction of 100, then the percentage is 12.5%.
