The Second World War was significantly different from the First World War from a political standpoint in terms of its scope, duration, and outcome. The Second World War also lasted much longer than the First World War, with Allied forces fighting the Axis powers for six years until the unconditional surrender of Germany in 1945. Finally, the outcomes of the two wars were drastically different, with the Second World War ending in the defeat of the Axis powers and the establishment of the United Nations, whereas the First World War resulted in a stalemate between the Allied and Central powers.
