Patient Case
Donna is a 35 year old female who is married and has a 5 year old daughter. Donna recently found out she was pregnant, but last week at 12 weeks she started to spot and went to see the doctor. At the doctors, Donna found out she was having a miscarriage and the doctors decided to look at her blood type and seemed very alarmed and asked her who her doctor was for her first child. Her blood type was A-.

Donna, a 35-year-old female who recently had a miscarriage, may have a condition called Anti-A, Anti-B Hemolytic Disease. This is a type of autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks red blood cells that have A or B antigens. This can cause hemolysis and can lead to a miscarriage if the fetus has a different blood type than the mother. The doctor may perform additional tests to confirm the diagnosis and may treat the patient with medications to suppress the immune system, monitor their health, or in severe cases, perform a blood transfusion.
