x = 8

Explanation:

AB/AC = BD/DC

2x/12 = x+4/x+1

12x + 4 = 2x² + 2x

2x² - 10x - 48 = 0

x² - 5x - 24 = 0

(x-8) (x+3) = 0

x = 8 (or) x= -3 (impossible)

x = 8
