Marcos' mother died when he was a very young boy, and when he was about 6 or 7, his father sold him to an aging goatherd. The old man died shortly afterward, and Marcos decided to seek shelter in the mountains instead of returning to his abusive blood relatives. Moreover, he wanted to be liked, to be normal, to have a wife and children. He wanted everything he seemed utterly incapable of having.
