The longer leg of a right triangle is nine less than three times the shorter leg. The

hypotenuse is two more than the longer leg. What is the length of the hypotenuse if the
perimeter is 24?

Answer: 71/7

Explanation:

I like this problem a lot!

Let the shorter leg length be x:

then the longer leg length is 3x - 9

the hypotenuse length is (3x - 9) + 2 = 3x - 7

Perimeter of Triangle = Sum of all 3 sides of a triangle

24 = x + (3x - 9) + (3x - 7)

24 = 7x - 16

40 = 7x

.: x = 40/7

.: hypotenuse = 3x - 7 = (120/7) - 7 = 71/7
