We are told that a rectangle has aparticular length L wich is 3 meters more than twice the rectangle's width W
So we can write this in mathematical terms as:
L = 2 W + 3
and also we can write an equation that takes into consideration the perimeter of the rectangle:
Perimeter = 54 meters = 2 L + 2 W
so we replace the expression for the length we got in the first equation into the second equation we typed:
54 = 2 (2 W + 3) + 2 W
54 = 4 W + 6 + 2 W
54 = 6 W + 6
subtract 6 from both sides
54 - 6 = 6 W
48 = 6 W
divide both sides by 6 to isolate W completely
W = 48 / 6
W = 8 meters
Now we can find what the length is by replacing this value we got for the width in the equation:
L = 2 W + 3
L = 2 * 8 + 3
L = 16 + 3 = 19
Then L = 19 m
and the width is W = 8 meters.
Dimensions : Length 19 m, and width 8 m
