Let S be the cost of a set of books and journals.

Since the cost of each book is $15, then for x books the cost will be 15x.

Since the cost of each journal is $7, then for y journals the cost will be 7y.

The cost of the set will be the sum of the cost of x boks and y journals.

Therefore:

S=15x+7y

Which is an algebraic expression that represents the situation.
