I really need help with this.

What historical events, processes or developments contributed to the development of sugar plantations in the Americas? What had to happen FIRST before such plantations could spread throughout the Americas?

What was the prevailing economic idea behind the plantation system? What sources of labor were utilized in the plantation system?

Answer: 1. The first chemically refined sugar appeared on the scene in India about 2,500 years ago. From there, the technique spread east towards China, and west towards Persia and the early Islamic worlds, eventually reaching the Mediterranean in the 13th century.

2. The plantation system developed in the American South as British colonists arrived in what became known as Virginia and divided the land into large areas suitable for farming.
