Answer:

(- 11, - 4 )

Explanation:

4x - 6y = - 20 → (1)

- 2x + 4y = 6 → (2)

multiplying (2) by 2 and adding to (1) will eliminate x

- 4x + 8y = 12 → (3)

add (1) and (3) term by term to eliminate x

0 + 2y = - 8

2y = - 8 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = - 4

substitute y = - 4 into either of the 2 equations and solve for x

substituting into (1)

4x - 6(- 4) = - 20

4x + 24 = - 20 ( subtract 24 from both sides )

4x = - 44 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = - 11

solution is (- 11, - 4 )
