A pizza shop used 100 pounds of pizza dough to make 155 pizzas. If a large pizza requires 1 pound of pizza dough, and medium pizza requires 1/2 a pound, how many large and medium-sized pizzas were made

Explanation:

First, we have to make our 2 equations. One has to have the pizzas and the total pizzas and one has to have the pounds. Suppose large is L and medium is M. L + 1/2M = 100 (pounds) and L + M = 155 (pizzas). Now, we can use elimination to remove one of the variables. But first, we need to multiply the equation (L + 1/2M = 100) by -2 to get (-2L + -M = -200). We can now add the two equations together and get -L = -45. Then we divide this by -1 and get L = 45. The large pizzas and 45 and with some easy subtracting (100 - 45 = 55) we can determine the amount of medium pizzas, which is 55.
