Try writing a poem in pentameter about a major theme emerging in The Illad. Possible options: loyalty, pride,

competition, friendship, forgiveness, stubbornness, or warfare. You can use enjambment to help your meter work. Also,
make sure every ten lines rhyme.
Your poem should also be twenty-six lines long. Here's a hint- It is much
easier to write your meaning, then write your
rhyme, then make sure your syllables work into ten syllables. A rhyming dictionary (there are many online) may also
be extremely helpful.

Answer: Here's a poem about the theme of pride in The Iliad:

In battles fought with honor, pride doth shine,

A fire that blazes fierce and burns divine.

A force that drives us to perform and prove,

Our worth and skill in warfare to improve.

Yet pride consumes, it overshadows all,

And leads us to the brink of self-destructive fall.

It blinds us to the truth, and clouds our sight,

And causes us to fall in fight.

In ancient Troy, Achilles was the name,

Of one who felt his pride and sought for fame.

With godlike strength, he fought for all to see,

And proved his worth to all of Greece and thee.

Yet when he was insulted by the king,

His prideful wrath a price beyond all things.

He left the fight, and left his friends to fight,

His honor wounded, his pride alight.

And in his absence, death and war prevailed,

And many lives were lost, and many tales were tales.

His prideful heart had caused him to ignore,

The greater good, and caused so many to be poor.

And so we learn, that pride is our demise,

It leads us to our own self-made demise.

For though it makes us great, it also makes us fall,

And brings our armies down, and brings down all.
