First rewrite the problem in slope intercept form by moving everything away from y.
-5x = 8 - y (move 8 by subtracting)
-8 -8
-8-5x = -y (divide whole problem by -1 y can't be negative..
(-8/-1)(- 5x/-1)= -y/-1
8 + 5x = y (slope intercept form)
the intercept is always the number by it self the Constant .... 8 or (0,8) order pair.
The slope is always beside x, the slope (m) is 5.
To find the x intercept, plug zero in for y and solve equation.
8 + 5x = y ( plug zero for y)
8 + 5x = 0 ( solve equation to isolate x)
-8 -8
5x = -8 ( divide by 5 both sides)
(5x/5) = (-8/5)
x = -8/5 thus your x intercept
is (-8/5, 0) or (1.6,0) decimal conversion from fraction.
