Answer:

1) (-5)^2+ x^2= 25 --> 25+x^2=25; you simplify the two 25, or in case you don't see that, x^2= 25-25, you get x^2=0 --> x=0.

2) you solve it the same way, so: y^2+(3)^2= 25, so you get y^2+9= 25, so... y^2= 16.... y= +4 or -4.
