Simplify-(-5) and -|-2|
(I don’t understand the steps)

Answer: -(-5) =5

-|-2| = -2

Explanation:

Two negatives = positives

Simply -(-5) and -|-2|?

Two negatives make a positive, so -(-5) would become just 5.

Now for -|-2|. The absolute value of any number is positive, so remove the negative on the inside and the absolute value. Which leaves you with -2.
