How and why did the U.S. initially stay out of World War II?

After the outcome of WWI, the U.S. stayed “neutral” during WWII and did not interfere with other foreign countries. From 1935-1937 congress passed the Neutrality Acts which would prevent American banks from providing financial services to other countries at war.
