480 gallons in 2/3 hours = 240 gallons in 1/3 hour

480 gallons in 2/3 hours = 240 gallons in 20 minutes

480 gallons in 2/3 hours = 12 gallons per minute

The unit rate is 12 gallons per minute

How to find the unit rate?

A unit rate is a ratio between two units where the second rate is 1. It compares a certain number of units of one quantity to 1 unit of another quantity.

We are told that a standard shower drain can drain water at the rate of 480 gallons in 2/3 hours.

Thus:

If 2/3 hours = 480 gallons, then:

1/3 hours = ((1/3) * 480)/(2/3) = 240 gallons in 1/3 hour

This can also be written as:

240 gallons in 20 minutes

Converting to per minute gives: 240/20 = 12 gallons per minute

The unit rate is 12 gallons per minute
