Farmer McDonald has 14 chickens for every 3 geese on his farm. If there are 15 geese, how many chickens are there?

14 for every 3 would be the same as 14/3

If we make that equal to x/15, what follows...


(chickens)/(geese) = (14)/(3) = (x)/(15)

If we cross multiply


3x = 14(15)


3x = 210

And lastly we divide by 3


x = 70 \: chickens
