What Was The Gold Rush?
The Gold Rush was the rapid influx of fortune seekers to the site of newly discovered gold deposits.
How Did They Do It?
A lot of people, especially poor people, would find a body of water nearest to them where gold lay. Major gold rushes occurred in the United States, Australia, Canada, and South Africa in the 19th century. The first major gold strike in North America occurred near Dahlonega, Georgia, in the late 1820s.
They would use filters that scooped in the water, draining all of the liquid out, only leaving solids in the strainer. When they did this, gold would stay in the stainer, and they would sell it for large amounts of money.
When did it start?
The California Gold Rush (1848–1855) was a gold rush that began on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. The news of gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad.
