The mean weight of ten people in a lift is 70 kg. The weight limit for the lift is 1000 kg. Roughly how many more people can get into the lift? Help!

Given:

Weight limit for the lift = 1000kg

Mean weight of 10 people = 70kg

Therefore, the total weight of 10 people inside the lift is 70 × 10 = 700kg.

Now, remaining weight that can fit in the lift is 1000 - 700 = 300kg.

Assuming the mean weight of the people who get inside the lift is constant, we find the closest number of people who can get inside the lift to be:

300 ÷ 70 = 4.285
Or
Roughly 4 more people.
