Answer: $2.5

Explanation:

The art museum charges a one-time fee of $8.25 plus $2.25 per month.

So, the cost function for membership for x months in the art museum f(x) = 8.25 + 2.25x .............. (1)

Again, the science museum charges a one-time fee of $10.75 plus $3.5 per month.

Hence, the cost function for membership for x months in the science museum g(x) = 10.75 + 3.5x ........... (2)

So, from both the equations it is clear that for only joining the monthly charges are zero.

So, f(0) = 8.25 and g(0) = 10.75.

Therefore, Barrett will save by joining the art museum instead of the science museum by $(10.75 - 8.25) = $2.5. (Answer)
