Hi, I am writing an History essay. I need help making changes/revising the opening paragraph. The essay prompt is “How did hurlers rule in Nazi Germany exemplify totalitarian rule?”

This is what I have right now:
It is generally agreed that Nazi Germany and Hitler’s rule was a time of terror and shock. By taking a closer look at how Hitler used totalitarian rule, we can gain a better understanding of why this period is though of as a trying time.

I mostly need help with the essay part not the history part, so if you don’t know much about history just comment and maybe I can help you help me :)

I made two of them. the first one is very very long about the whole essay. (i also didn't finish the counter claim and conclusion), and the second one is only a revision of the opening paragraph. if you want you can just delete 90% of it of the first one.

1st one:

Claim: The rule of the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany was a prime example of totalitarian rule.

1st Body Paragraph: First Reason for Position

Totalitarian regimes like Nazi Germany, characterized by complete control of the state by a single political entity, rely on propaganda and strict censorship to control the population. The Nazis utilized the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, headed by Joseph Goebbels, to manipulate the German people through radio, newspapers, film, and other media. This propaganda was used to spread the Nazi message, promote anti-Semitic beliefs, and create a cult of personality around Hitler.

Evidence: The Nazi regime controlled all forms of media, such as newspapers, radio, and film, to spread their message and promote their ideology.

Connection to Claim/Reason: The Nazis' control of the media demonstrated their complete control over the means of communication and their ability to manipulate the German people.

Evidence: The Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, headed by Joseph Goebbels, was responsible for controlling all forms of media and spreading Nazi propaganda.

Connection to Claim/Reason: The existence of this ministry and the role it played in controlling the media and spreading propaganda highlights the regime's focus on maintaining control over the population through strict censorship and manipulation.

2nd Body Paragraph: Second Reason for Position

In Nazi Germany, the government had complete control over the economy, society, and individual lives. The Nazi regime was based on a totalitarian ideology that saw the state as supreme and individuals as subordinate. The regime was able to control the economy by implementing policies such as the Four Year Plan, which aimed to increase military production and ensure economic self-sufficiency. The Nazis also controlled society through the creation of paramilitary organizations, such as the SA and the SS, and by suppressing opposition through terror and repression.

Evidence: The Four Year Plan aimed to increase military production and ensure economic self-sufficiency, demonstrating the government's complete control over the economy.

Connection to Claim/Reason: The implementation of this plan highlights the regime's control over the economy and their efforts to centralize power and control.

Evidence: The creation of paramilitary organizations, such as the SA and the SS, and the suppression of opposition through terror and repression demonstrates the government's control over society and individuals.

Connection to Claim/Reason: The establishment of these organizations and the use of terror and repression show the government's willingness to use violence and fear to maintain control over society and individuals.

3rd Body Paragraph: Counterclaim

It could be argued that the Nazi regime was not a true example of totalitarian rule because of the lack of control over the military. The German military was independent of the Nazi Party and maintained a level of autonomy throughout the regime. Additionally, the Nazi regime was not able to control all aspects of individual lives, as private thoughts and beliefs were difficult to regulate.

Evidence: The German military was independent of the Nazi Party and maintained a level of autonomy throughout the regime.

Connection to Claim/Reason: The lack of control over the military demonstrates that the Nazi regime was not able to exert complete control over all aspects of society.

Evidence: The Nazi regime was not able to control all aspects of individual lives, such as private thoughts and beliefs.

( for the long version i did not finish the counter claim. i ran out of space and it is kind of long so if you want you can delete like 90% of it, or you can just use the shorter version.).

2nd one:

The reign of Hitler and Nazi Germany remains one of the darkest periods in modern history, characterized by terror, oppression, and widespread atrocities. A closer examination of Hitler's tactics of totalitarian rule offers insight into the nature of this repressive regime and the reasons why it is remembered as a time of suffering and hardship.
