im writing an essay and it asks me to "define the audience" I can't find anything on the internet and it's probably simple but can someone help im a bit confused

When defining an audience you need find if this has to be professional or not so like if it’s your mom no if it’s your class no if it is your teacher yes they want you to say who the audience is and finding if it’s professional or not will change how you right your essay a lot
