Tabitha was shooting free throws in gym class. She completed 5 of the shots, which was half of 4 more than Joan completed.

1/2(n+4)=5

The reason why is because it fits perfectly in the equation.

1/2 (6 + 4) = 5

Do whats in the parenthesis first:

6 + 4 = 10

No multiply: (1/2 * 10 is the same as dividing 10 by 2):

1/2 * 10 = 5

Thus, 6 checks out, and is the answer.
