Genetic drugs are short sequences of short nucleotides. They act by binding to selected sites on
DNA or mRNA molecules and preventing the synthesis of disease related protein.
There are two types:
triplex drugs are made from DNA nucleotides and bind to the DNA forming a three stranded
helix.
antisense drugs are made from RNA nucleotides and bind to mRNA
(a)
Name the process in protein synthesis which will be inhibited by:
(1) triplex drugs....
(ii) antisense drugs
(b)
The table shows the sequence of bases in part of a molecule of mRNA.
base sequence on sense strand of DNA
base sequence on mRNA
base sequence on antisense drug
A
с
G U U
A G с
Complete the table to show:
(1)
the base sequence on the corresponding part of the sense strand of a molecule of DNA;
the base sequence on the antisense drug that binds to this mRNA.
