Couple of kids are playing on a playground near their school on a summer morning. It's really quiet. The

temperature of the air is 28.5 °C. One of the kids claps her hands really hard and a few moments later she hears
her hand clap echo off the school building. If it takes 1.78 s from the time she claps her hands to the time she
hears the acho, how far away is the building?

The speed of sound in air at 28.5°C is approximately 340 m/s. So, we can calculate the distance by using the formula:
distance = speed * time
distance = 340 * 1.78
distance = 602.2 m

So, the building is approximately 602.2 meters away from the kids
