Explanation:

to subtract mixed numbers:

example 5 1 /4 - 7 1/2

you change the denominator to the GCM so it would be 4 so you would have now 5 1/4 - 4 1/4 then you do 5-4 which is 1 and 1/4- 1/4 is 0 so it just would be 1
