Let X be the number of sweets Sue gives to Tony.

Sue has 18 - X sweets before eating 5.
So, Sue now has 18 - X + 5 = 23 - X sweets.

Tony has 18 + X sweets before eating half of his sweets.
So, Tony now has 18 + X / 2 sweets.

Therefore,
Sue = 23 - X
Tony = 18 + X / 2
