s = cost of a student ticket

(1) 68a + 136s = 1088

(2) 79a + 140s = 1183

solve (1) for a:

68a = 1088 - 136s

a = 16 - 2s substitute this into (2):

79(16-2s) + 140s = 1183

1264 - 158s + 140s = 1183 solve for s:

-18s = -81

s = -81/-18 = 4.50 plug this into either equation 1 or 2 to solve for a:

68a + 136(4.50) = 1088

68a = 1088 - 612 = 476

a = 476/68 = 7.00
