Answer:

1.) 7-4y = 19

To solve this question you have to leave isolate y ( leave y alone).

To do so, you have to first get rid of the positive 7, so SUBTRACT BY 7 ON BOTHS SIDES.

7-7 -4y = 19-7

Now simplify!

-4y = 12

The next step to isolate y ( leave y alone ) the variable y has to be divided by its coefficient ( 4 ). In simpler terms, you have to divide by -4 on both sides. When a positive number is being divided by a negative number the outcome ( solution ) will always be positive!

-4/-4 y = 12/-4

Now simplify!

y = -3

Make sure you plug in -3 to the original equation to make sure your answer is correct!! Onto the next question!!!! -------->

2.) 12 - 4s = -12

To solve this question you have to leave isolate s ( leave s alone).

To do so, you have to first get rid of the positive 12 ( on the left side of the equation), so SUBTRACT BY 12 ON BOTHS SIDES. This will cancel out 12!

12-12 - 4s = -12 -12

Now simplify!

-4s = -24

You might be wondering why this equals -4 ( if not you can just skip over this! :D ). Well, when a negative number ( -12 in this case ) is subtracted by a positive number ( 12 in this case ) it acts as if the positive number is actually a negative being added to a negative.

EXAMPLE: -12 + (-12) = -24 and -12 - 12 = 24.

These are the exact same thing! Do you follow?

-4s = -24

So to leave s alone you have to divide by -4 on both sides. When two negatives are being divided by each other you're always left with a positive. This will cancel out the -4!

-4/-4 s = -24/-4

Now simplify!

s = 6

Make sure you plug in 6 to the original equation to make sure your answer is correct!! Onto the next question!!!! -------->

3.) -2 = 5 - n

This might look weird or even a little scary at first but it's just like all the other questions we did! What I usually do to solve these types of equations is flip it over like this ( you do not have to do this, but I find it much easier) :

-2 = 5 - n --------> 5 - n = -2

This is the exact same as the original equation. Does this look easier to you? Just like all the previous equations you have to isolate n ( leave n alone ). To do this you have to SUBTRACT 5 TO POSITIVE 5 ON BOTH SIDES. This will cancel out the 5!

5-5 - n = -2 - 5

As I explained in the previous question -2 - 5 will result in a negative number if you want more information about this you can just go back to QUESTION 2.)

5-5 - n = -2 - 5

Now simplify!

-n = -7

As you should know in front of every variable there is an invisible 1 (one), so n is the same as 1n. When there is a negative ( - ) infront of the variable this is the same as -1n. In order to leave n alone you have to DIVIDE BY -1 ON BOTH SIDES. This will cancel out the -1 in front of x and make the -7 positive because when a negative number is divided by a negative number you always get a positive number!

-1/-1 n = -7/-1

Now simplify!

n = 7

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey, I really hope this helped and that you learned from this! Thank you so much for giving me this great opportunity to help you out! :))

I hope this answered your question. :D
