1) Sandra bought coffee in a cup shaped like a cylinder with a radius of 10 centimeters and a height of 20 centimeters. Sandra fills the cup with coffee, but she leaves 5 centimeters of space at the top to have room for cream. What is the volume of coffee in her cup?

Solution

Given,

  • Radius of the cylinder 10cm
  • Height of the cylinder is given as 20

So right now we need to find the volume of the cup i.e. like a cylinder

So she leaves 5 centimeter of gap which means the height of the cup will be

Height = 20 - 5

= 15

Applying the formula to find the volume of the cup

Volume = πr²h

= π(10)²x 15

= 1500π

Substituting π as 3.14 we get

1500 x 3.14 = 4710cm³

Hence the volume is 4710cm³
