complementary angles sum to 90°

sum the 2 angles and equate to 90

2x - 20 + 3x + 1 = 90

5x - 19 = 90 ( add 19 to both sides )

5x = 109 ( divide both sides by 5 )

x = 21.8

Then

∠ A = 2x - 20 = 2(21.8) - 20 = 43.6 - 20 = 23.6°
