The following equation has an error in one of the operations.

2(x−4y)+3y=2x+11y
Which answer would correct the error?

1. Change 2(x−4y)+3y to 2(x+4y)−3y.
2. Change (x−4y) to (x+4y).
3. Change 2x+11y to 2x−11y.
4. Change 2(x−4y)+3y to 2(x−4y)−3y.

answer is 2 because if we expand the bracket we get 2x–8y+3y which is 2x–5y but if it was 2(x+4y) it would be equal to 2x+8y+3y therefore being 2x+11y
