One of the world's heaviest hailstones weighed 2.2 pounds. Which is more appropriate to express its mass, 1 kilogram or 1 gram?

2.2 pounds is approximately 0.998 kg, which can be rounded off to 1 kg. However, you really do have to be precise, you may measure it in grams (that's, 998 grams).

So, the most appropriate way is to use 1 kilogram, as a hailstone can be considered quite heavy and we may not be keen on looking for a really precise measurements, as they're measured in hundreds of grams!
