Answer:

Explanation:

adult ticket = x student ticket = y

3y + 1x=38

3y + 2x = 52

Simplify the first equation to get x by itself

3y + 1x = 38

-3y - 3y

------------------

1x = 38 - 3y

Now put the equation for x into the second equation and solve for y

3y + 2(38 - 3y) = 52

3y +76 - 6y = 52

-3y + 76 = 52

-3y = 52 - 76

-3y= - 24

y = 8

So the student ticket costs $8

Plug the value for y back into the original equation.

3y + x = 38

3 x 8 +x = 38

24 + x = 38

so x = 14

a student ticket is $8 and an adult ticket is $14

you can check your work

3(8) + 14 = 38
