Greetings, esteemed guests, I am Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, and I have gathered you here tonight to share with you the events that have transpired since I arrived on this island.
As you may recall, I was cast away from my dukedom by my brother Antonio, with the help of Alonso, King of Naples. I was left on this desolate island with only my daughter Miranda and my servant Ariel for company.
However, despite the hardships I faced, I found solace in my studies of magic, which I used to manipulate and control the spirits of the island, including the spirit Caliban, who attempted to ravage my daughter.
During the time of our arrival on this island, my brother Antonio, with the help of Alonso, King of Naples, had captured my loyal counselor Gonzalo and sought to kill him. But, through the intervention of the spirit Ariel, Gonzalo was saved, and my brother's plan was foiled.
Furthermore, I was able to reunite my daughter Miranda with the prince of Naples, Ferdinand, whom she had fallen in love with, and I arranged their marriage.
And, as for my brother Antonio and Alonso, they too were made to face the consequences of their actions, being shipwrecked and washed up on the shore of the island. Through a series of events, including illusions and apparitions, I was able to show them the error of their ways and seek their forgiveness.
I have now regained my dukedom, and I have chosen to forgive those who wronged me and to put the past behind me. And, in keeping with this spirit of forgiveness, I have released the spirits of the island, including Ariel, from their servitude.
