7. Calcium carbonate is decomposed by heating to form calcium oxide and

carbon dioxide gas.

1CaCO 3 ---> 1 CaO + 1 CO 2
What is the percent yield of this reaction if 24.8 g of CaCO 3 is heated to
give 13.1 g of CaO?

The theoretical yield of the reaction can be calculated using the stoichiometric ratios from the balanced chemical equation.

1CaCO3 -> 1CaO + 1CO2

The theoretical yield of CaO is equal to the amount of CaCO3 used in the reaction.

The percent yield can then be calculated as follows:

Percent yield = (actual yield / theoretical yield) x 100

Percent yield = (13.1 g CaO / 24.8 g CaCO3) x 100

Percent yield = 52.9 %

Therefore, the percent yield of the reaction is 52.9%.
