Explanation:

To do this question we have to expand the brackets and collect like terms

1) Expand brackets

  • -4 (3x - 7)
  • -4 × 3x = -12x
  • -4 × -7 = 28
  • -12x + 28

2) Collect like terms

  • There are no like terms in the final answer so it must still be the same

TOP TIP:

Be careful with the operations for example if we were to say that -4 × -7 = -28 our answer would be wrong!

The rules for the operations is that if a - and a + are multiplied the answer will always be -.
